This will go in my bag for camping but have also been using my Volcano II on the back deck. It really holds in the heat so you can turn the flame way down to the point of almost going out - a real fuel and time saver.So far very satisfied. Yes, it is fireproof, and also turns the grill into a fantastic smoker.I use it mainly with hardwood for cooking. I let the flames die down a bit, put the flame diffuser ( the middle plate ) on and warm up the top grill and I'm ready to cook. With the lid on the flames almost totally disappear resulting in a meal that is pretty much baked. I still turn whatever I'm grilling over, but I'm not really sure I need to. If you use it with some nice maple, hickory or other hardwood, you can get a great smokey flavor to your chicken, chops or whatever. Meat comes out very moist. You'll love it. |
