I like to research products like this but two reasons I went with this is because number one: replacement products like mantles, globe, etc. are available everywhere, whereas other companies might make great lanterns but are harder to find parts. Reason two: after reading poor reviews on more expensive lanterns I decided that I would try the economical model and give it a chance. So far it works great. I did burn a hole in the first mantle which was a bummer but I did buy about 8 replacements at the time of purchase (I understand that they are fragile). It is very bright on high, it starts reliably the few times I have relighted the lantern. I think that the plastic case that it collapses into is a good enough shield from dropping or smashing but I also try hard to make sure it gets taken care of. Unfortunately, like most glass lanterns, there's always a chance that it may drop and the glass may break. The problem with this lantern is the inability to get a replacement part. I have searched in vain for quite some time for an exact replacement. There is a shorter size glass replacement that will work on the lantern, but will make the lantern/case combination much less secure. I would recommend it to another avid car camper. |
